The Office of Emerging Frontiers in Research and Innovation (EFRI) provides funding opportunities for interdisciplinary teams ofresearchers to embark on rapidly advancing frontiers of fundamental engineering research. EFRI seeks proposals with potentiallytransformative ideas that represent an opportunity for a significant shift in fundamental engineering knowledge with a strong potentialfor long term impact on national needs or a grand challenge. For this solicitation, EFRI will consider proposals that aim toinvestigate emerging frontiers in the following two specific research areas: (1) Engineering New Technologies Based on Multicellularand Inter-kingdom Signaling (MIKS), and (2) Mind, Machines, and Motor Control (M3C). The proposals must meet the detailedrequirements delineated in this solicitation.
