High Temperature Materials, Processes & Diagnostics

Application Deadline
Applications for this meeting must be submitted by June 27, 2010. Please apply early, as some meetings become oversubscribed (full) before this deadline. If the meeting is oversubscribed, it will be stated here. Applications will still be accepted for oversubscribed meetings. However, they will only be considered by the Conference Chair if more seats become available due to cancellations.

The thermodynamic concept of “high temperature” and the associated phenomena of scientific and technological relevance have evolved over the years to a point where they must be re-examined. This 50th anniversary conference is intended to foster discussions and debate regarding the most current understanding of “high temperature” and the state of the art in experimental, theoretical and computational studies of high temperature materials, processes, and diagnostics for scientific and technological applications.

The meeting will include presentations of cutting edge results on materials such as high temperature superconductors, solid oxide fuel cells, thermoelectric materials, fusion and fission reactor materials, radioactive waste, and ultrahigh temperature ceramics. A special attention will be given to discovery and design of innovative materials for high temperature applications. Presentations of high temperature processes such as surface treatments, welding, melting-solidification, powder densification, and high temperature synthesis will play a special role. The state of the art in high temperature characterization methods (diagnostics) will be examined with a focus on non-destructive and in-situ techniques.

The 2010 edition will bring together participants from a long series of successful meetings. Given the accelerated developments in various components of the scientific method, we expect the meeting to create a forum for discussion of new directions and opportunities in high temperature science.

Financial support is available for students and young researchers, provided that they present a poster.

Preliminary Program
A list of preliminary session topics and speakers is currently being developed by the Conference Chair and will be available by December 1, 2009. Please check back for updates.
