Executive Summary

Accelerating Investment in Research and Innovation, the Toronto Region Research Alliance (TRRA) Long-range Strategic Plan is the culmination of several months of intense activity. TRRA consulted with board and advisory council directors, conducted extensive research and analytical work, and held planning sessions with staff. The result is a plan that builds on the organization’s existing strengths, refining and clarifying our role. The plan also identifies new areas to focus our investment attraction efforts.

Highlights of TRRA’s New Directions

• Reframe the regional Vision and TRRA Mission: The Vision has been reframed to be reputational in nature – to be known worldwide as one of the top regions for research and innovation. TRRA's Mission has been streamlined to clearly identify TRRA as a regional economic development organization that promotes investment in research and innovation. TRRA’s core values are identified: collaborative, responsive, accountable and innovative.

• Organize activities around strategic “themed” programs: TRRA’s activities will be organized
around strategic themed programs that align with federal and provincial priorities, improve awareness of TRRA’s role, and enable incremental project funding.
