Vitamin B12 & Corphins

Organometallic Magic Of Life On Earth: From Microorganisms To Humans

August 2-7, 2009
Magdalen College
Oxford, United Kingdom

Chair:
Bernhard Kraeutler

Vice Chair:
Catherine L. Drennan

Application Deadline: Applications for this meeting must be submitted by July 12, 2009.
Please apply early, as some conferences become oversubscribed (full) before this deadline. If the conference is oversubscribed, it will be stated here. You will still be able to submit your application. However, it will only be considered by the Conference Chair if there are cancellations, making more seats available.

The 2009 Gordon Research Conference on Vitamin B12 and Corphins will cover a most intriguing vitamin (B12) and the corphins, the central catalysts of biological methane cycles. The two classes of fascinating compounds have in common, their origin in micro-organisms and their roles as unique bio-organometallic catalysts. They sustain most known forms of life. B12 does so even on the level of us humans. This GRC will thus deal with a very interdisciplinary area, and will bring together leading scientists coming from a broad range of the medical and the natural sciences. The Gordon Research Conference on Vitamin B12 and Corphins will provide deep insights into a majority of the important medical, genetic, microbiological, biochemical, enzymatic, structural and chemical aspects of vitamin B12 and of the corphins. A concise selection of the newest and hottest fundamental and applied studies in these areas is presented and will be discussed.

The GRC on Vitamin B12 and Corphins was founded as recently as in 2003. The upcoming 4th meeting will be held at Magdalen College of the University of Oxford (UK) during the week of Aug. 2-7, 2009. The program of this GRC features an outstanding group of scientists at the forefront of research, and brings together a mix of established and younger scientists. All the speakers and poster presenters are encouraged to present and emphasize unpublished work to the greatest possible extent. All conferees are invited to present posters. Poster presenters should submit an abstract with the title, authors, affiliation, and address by email to the Chair, Bernhard Kraeutler. After review of the poster abstracts by the organizers, six individuals will be invited to present 15-minute seminars, in addition to the standard poster presentations. The conference is limited to 150 registrations. Early submission of applications is encouraged.
