Twenty years have passed since the First International Symposium on the Spectacled Bear was held in Chicago. The first symposium became an important source of information about bear research and conservation both in situ and ex situ, and was an important platform
upon which many productive alliances for bear conservation were made. Those partnerships and collaborations generated much of the new information now available on the Andean bear.  A second symposium will enable the gathering and synthesis of previously collected information, the assessment of current information and conservation needs, and the development of new collaborations and partnerships for Andean bear conservation both in situ and ex situ. We, the organizers and supporters of the Second International Symposium on the Andean bear, invite all the people interested in the research and conservation of the Andean bear to participate at this event.
