Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society International Symposium

The most imperiled group of animals worldwide is also key to restoring water quality in rivers and lakes.

The Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society would like to invite YOU to the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Maryland on April 19-24, 2009.
The theme for the 2009 symposium is Healthy Mollusks = Healthy Rivers = Healthy People.

The Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society`s 2009 International Symposium is shaping up to be a fantastic meeting, with speakers from around the world and Native American Tribes of North America. As always, the meeting will focus on the ongoing work of North American malacologists to restore, conserve, and understand our freshwater mollusks. In 2009, however, we will broaden the scope and reach beyond our organization to share information and learn from our international and tribal partners. The Society has a membership of 500, and 300 members generally attend our symposium. Membership is made up of agency, industry, non-governmental organizations and academicians from across North America, mostly from the eastern US and Canada but with an increasing overseas interest. We expect
attendance at this meeting to be one of the largest ever as we have made a special effort to invite our international and tribal partners to make this event more national and international in scope.

Join us at this International Symposium of the FMCS to address global, national, and regional problems affecting freshwater mollusks, discuss new developments in propagation of this unique fauna, and learn strategies for protecting and conserving freshwater ecosystems.
