Corrosion - Aqueous
The 2010 Gordon Research Conference on Aqueous Corrosion will continue the rich tradition of this long-standing event, which has continually changed with the times, and with emerging technologies and societal priorities. An important recent change was the introduction of a Gordon Research Seminar, whose description can also be found on the GRC web site.
Corrosion science is growing at its boundaries with other disciplines, and this will be a major theme of the 2010 conference. Particular areas of interest are the intersections of corrosion science with nanotechnology and with advanced energy issues such as fuel cell electrodes. But at the other extreme, corrosion science deals with the protection and life prediction of enormous engineering investments, such as nuclear power plants and reinforced concrete infrastructure. Advances in basic experimental science and mathematical modeling are necessary to deal with these challenges as well as the microscopic ones. In fact, much of the underlying science is closely related. Corrosion science is also coming to be recognized as a key component of materials sustainability and environmental protection.
The oral program for the conference is by invitation, and a draft version will be posted on this web site towards the end of 2009. Applications to attend the conference, with the option to present a poster, will be solicited in the near future. Like all GRCs, the conference features ample time for discussion, with experienced discussion leaders, and plenty of time for informal interactions in an attractive setting.
