Pineal Cell Biology

Application Deadline

The application deadline for this meeting was January 1, 2012. You may still submit an application. However, it will only be considered by the Conference Chair if more seats become available due to cancellations.

The 2012 Gordon Conference on Pineal Cell Biology: Links to Circadian Clocks, Sleep and Metabolism will bring together world leading experts in the newly emerging supra-disciplinary field of metabolism, sleep and circadian rhythms. The meeting will focus on the recent advances in understanding the underlying molecular networks and biochemical pathways linking the pineal gland and its hormone melatonin with the circadian clock timing system, sleep/wake processing and metabolism as well as the interaction between metabolic disorders, sleep and circadian disturbances in health and disease.

Bringing together researchers from related fields will allow a unique cross-fertilization of ideas, "out-of-the box" thinking and new networking opportunities for attendees. The collegial atmosphere of this Conference, with programmed discussion sessions as well as opportunities for informal gatherings in the afternoons and evenings, provides an avenue for scientists from different disciplines to brainstorm and promotes cross-disciplinary collaborations in the various research areas represented.

Young investigators at the graduate and post-doctoral level will be actively integrated into the meeting through poster presentations and by selection of some posters authored by Trainees for "Hot Topics" oral presentations. Trainees are thus strongly encouraged to apply.

A limited number of scholarships will be awarded as Trainee Poster Awards on a competitive basis. These scholarships will provide partial registration fee reduction for Trainees whose posters are selected.

In addition, limited funds are available to defray partial registration expenses of individuals from underrepresented groups, including Trainees, women, under-represented minorities, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from geographic regions poorly represented at the Conference. Please indicate in your application if you wish to be considered for any of these.

The poster sessions are an excellent opportunity for younger scientists to present their work. All registrants are welcome to present a poster. Abstracts (for programming purposes; title, authors, institution, text up to 400 words) should be submitted via the GRC online application and to the conference Vice-Chair, Vinnie Cassone by January 8, 2012.
