신약 개발에서 있어서 당구조는 해당 신약의 안정성과 효과에 많은 영향을 준다. 따라서 지속적인 당화 패턴(Glycosylation pattern)을 분석하는 것은 바이오신약개발과 생산에 기본적이며 매우 중요한 과정이라 할 수 있다. 기존에는 일반적으로 세포배양 과정에서 당화과정을 조절하였으나 결코 쉽지 않은 과정이다. 일정한glycoform을 얻는다거나, 원하는 효율에 맞춰서 생산하거나 하는 과정이 원하는 것만큼 이루어 지지 않는 경우가 많다.

이런 당화과정을 in vitro에서 진행한다면 더욱 적합한 당화패턴 및 더 많은 효율의 제품을 얻는데 도움이 될 뿐 아니라, 더욱 빠른 bioprocess와 manufacturing process 조절이 가능하게 될 것이다.
