What We Were Facing
Enacted on February 17, 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“ARRA” or “the Recovery Act”) was designed to combat the largest downturn in the economy since the Great Depression and to help put Americans back to work. One year later, we can definitively say that ARRA is meeting its goals and providing a measureable benefit to the economy. When ARRA was passed, the economy was in freefall. Job numbers were plummeting and unemployment rolls were expanding. More and more Americans were losing their jobs and the country was in need of a jumpstart.
