Stem Cell Therapy: the ethical issues

 

The potential for human stem cells to give rise to different types of bodily cells raises the possibility of major advances in healthcare, including transplant therapies for treating many disease and conditions, changes in methods of drug testing and improved understanding of normal human development. Much current research is controversial because it involves deriving stem cells from human embryos and cadaveric fetal tissues. This paper examines the key ethical issues and makes recommendations.
