Biotechnology Intellectual Preperty Manual
The training manual is ideal as a working tool for researchers and research managers. The manual contains valuable information such as the types of IP, how to commercialise IP successfully and when to file a patent application.
The Manual was commissioned by Biotechnology Australia and developed by Spruson and Ferguson Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys, who have strong experience in the biotechnology sector.
The Manual is intended to complement IP management policies and practices but is not a substitute for advice from qualified IP professionals.
The Biotechnology Intellectual Property Manual was published in July 2001. In April 2002 a number of amendments to the Australian Patent Legislation came into force. These include changes to the prior art base for novelty, the test for inventive step and the extension of novelty saving provisions for certain prior disclosures. These changes mean that the information in affected parts of the Manual may no longer be accurate. The Manual remains current but must be read taking into account the effect of the legislative amendments referred to in the preceding sentences. As in all IP matters please follow your organisation's procedures in obtaining the advice of an appropriate professional.
